Convert .MSV to MP3
Method 1 – Commercial software
There exists the commercial software (with on-going support) that does the job. The software is called NCH Switch that can convert MSV to/from MP3 (or other formats). You can check that.
Method 2 – Free software
There exists one free software to do that job. However, that program has no support. It seems to work on Windows 7,8,10 etc…
- Run the app and choose “Digital Voice Editor“
(Note: after opening the application, you will see some issues in Application, however, the essential functionality & buttons will work, to extract/encode the file into MP3.)
- Navigate to folder (where are your .msv or other files), and in second window click the .msv file iself.
- click in the top menu bar: PC>Convert File
About the version of the above free program
I had some old audio-recorder appliance (produced by Sony) that stores files with .MSV format/extension. That is a proprietary audio extension, owned by Sony itself. However, that is not playable in a PC or on any device, because at first, it needs conversion into a readable audio format (.wav, .mp3 or etc). After searching through Internet, I was unable to find a working free version of .MSV to .MP3 converter (for Windows 7,10 or later). The old free “Sony ICS Converter” hasnt been updated since 2004, so, that’s why I’ve decided to do this work.
So, on Windows XP, I have downloaded the last (but quite old versions) of Sony software , manually extracted and repacked the following programs:
- Sony® Digital Voice Editor
- Sony ICS converter
- Sony Plugin for MediaPlayer
(PLAYERPLUGINSETUP129.exe , integrated PlayerPlugin2102Setup_EN.exe)
And now it WORKS ON ANY LATEST VERSION OF WINDOWS! It is open-source portable application/package (Made with Cameyo 2.7.1291).
p.s. If you know other free software to be able to make this conversion, post in comments!
